A BIT ABOUT ME

I'm an Aussie-born creative leader and ​educator specialising in branding, ​digital, packaging and art direction. ​With a decade of experience in ​creative agencies, in-house roles and ​leadership positions, I’m passionate ​about crafting beautiful, strategic, and ​contemporary creative direction and ​design for purpose-driven brands.

CAREER SUMMARY

CANVA

group design lead

May 2022 – Present

Currently the Group Design Lead for ​Social, Content and Community, creating ​and directing educational and social ​content that empowers the world to ​design in Canva.

Grew the design team from 4 to 14 over two years and ​helped establish and foster team harmony by creating ​social programs, enabling collaboration and knowledge ​sharing, and crafting our team vision and mission.

Navigated the team through multiple restructures, ​uncertainty and change while consistently maintaining ​high People Pulse scores and team morale.

Established production processes and design approval ​matrixes to ensure that we effectively and efficiently ​deliver creative briefs at speed.

Developed the creative direction and vision for the Design ​School brand, leading to the production of over 150 pieces ​of filmed educational content.

Led the creative direction of multiple high performing ​cross-channel campaigns for our Pro and Education ​markets. We also developed creative for the highest ​performing campaign of all time at Canva, Pro for Holidays, ​which saw over $40M ARR generated in one month.

CREATIVE DIRECTOR

OCT 2020 – JUNE 2022

Making work easy with Employment ​Hero. As the Creative Director I built and ​oversaw the internal creative department ​and delivered strategic, engaging ​communications to small and medium-​sized businesses on the up.

Led the entire strategic and visual brand refresh, aligning ​senior leadership and the marketing team towards a single ​brand idea and visual language.

Evolved the brand by sourcing and project managing ​external agencies and freelancers for bespoke campaigns.

Created and implemented the vision to evolve the ​company's internal design capability, including increasing ​headcount, running workshops and sessions on how to roll-​out the brand through Canva, and creating a cloud based ​brand guideline document.

Led the internationalisation of content by creating bespoke ​creative campaigns across New Zealand, the UK, Singapore ​and Malaysia.

Getting my print and packaging legs. ​Learning how to design for taste, how ​to craft a story and seeing the how ​strategy can anchor design decisions.

Led the development of strategic and conceptual designs ​for alcoholic beverages, from wine to spirits and RTDs.

Translated print and packaging branding to the digital ​and social media space by designing social campaigns ​and motion treatments.

Art directed photoshoots for final projects, anchoring all ​direction to its original creative purpose and strategy.

Helped mentor and guide junior members of the team.

Sep 2018 – Oct 2019

Sinking my teeth into all things digital, ​immersing myself in display ads, optimising ​landing pages, building eDMs, nurture ​sequences, and animating explainer videos.

Assisted in the creation of a new bespoke eDM template ​through Litmus, helping to optimise the UI and UX of ​newsletters and nurtures.

Created, optimised and rolled out animated content for ​paid social, including Snapchat and Instagram stories.

Developed created and tested new components for the my ​nrma app and website, including wireframing, user testing and ​minor front-end development.

Casual Academic

Jul 2016 – Oct 2018

Teaching design students everything ​from typesetting, grids, ideation and ​everything in-between.

Assisted in crafting activities and briefs to engage 1st ​and 3rd year design students around subjects like ​typography, editorial design and conceptual thinking.

Art directed and mentored students to guide them ​towards their final submissions.

Gave practical and technical demonstrations both ​in-person and through online workshops.

Graphic Designer

SEPT 2017 – SEP 2018

Learning what the hell a brand is, and ​how to execute a good one. I got to work ​end-to-end on identity projects for ​Cancer Council, Targus, Brabham ​Automotive and more.

Created design concepts that laddered back to brand ​strategy and research, anchored in creative processes

Artworked and rolled out design collateral, ranging from ​packaging to brochure design and web development.

Communicated with clients to ensure their needs were ​met, balancing the creative vision of the design team.
